I've never been able to walk past a guitar

My name is Bob Molton. I play guitar. That sounds like a small sentence, but it's shaped almost everything I've done.

I bought my first guitar with money I shouldn't have spent, and it was the wrong guitar. High action, sharp fret ends, a neck that fought me. I assumed I was untalented. It took years and someone else's guitar for me to understand that the instrument had been working against me the whole time.

After that I ended up on every side of the counter. I sold guitars. I set them up so they'd play the way the buyer hoped. I bought and traded and occasionally got fleeced, which is its own education. I taught people to play — beginners, restarters, and folks who'd been stuck on the same three chords for twenty years.

Then I started a YouTube channel about guitar, mostly because I couldn't stop answering the same questions. Which guitar should I buy? Is this listing a scam? Why does my B string buzz? Should I get a new guitar or just a setup?

Why this site exists

Every one of those questions has a real answer that depends on the person asking. A video can't ask you about your hand size, your apartment walls, or your budget. A tool can.

So instead of building another video course nobody finishes, I'm building AI tools that ask you the questions I'd ask you at the counter, then give you an answer you can act on in the next ten minutes. That's the whole idea behind Must Love Guitars.

What I believe about guitars

The right guitar is the one you'll pick up tonight. Not the most expensive one, not the one your hero played — the one within arm's reach that feels good in your lap.

A good setup is the best money in guitar. Better strings, straighter neck, lower action. Most players who want a new guitar actually want a hundred dollars of work on the one they own.

And nobody should feel stupid in a guitar shop. Not ever. If this site does one thing, I'd like it to be that.
